How to care for a leather or synthetic wallet
Wallets get handled more than almost anything else you own. A few habits keep the edges neat and the folds from cracking.
Know the material first
Some of our wallets list leather, such as the 21-6904 bifolds. Many others do not publish a material. If the product does not say leather, treat it as a synthetic or coated finish and clean it gently.
Do not overfill it
Overfilling is the main reason wallets lose shape. Carry the cards you use daily and keep the rest at home.
Avoid sitting on a wallet in a back pocket. It bends the wallet and is not great for your back either.
Cleaning
- Leather: wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth, then apply a small amount of leather conditioner a few times a year.
- Synthetic or coated: wipe with a damp cloth and a drop of mild soap, then dry immediately.
- Never soak a wallet or use solvents, which can strip color and finish.
Money clips and card holders
A money clip, like the 21-8250, holds a few folded bills and cards with almost no bulk. Do not overload the clip, or it will lose its spring.
