Analog vs digital watches: which to choose
The choice is less about technology than about how you use a watch. Both types here run on quartz, so both are accurate. The difference is how they show the time and what else they do.
Analog: hands on a dial
An analog watch shows time with hands. It is quicker to read at a glance for most people and pairs well with a shirt or a suit.
Our Daniel Klein watches are analog quartz models with brass cases, Hardlex crystal, and either stainless steel bracelets or leather straps, with 30 or 50 meters of water resistance listed.
Digital: numbers on a display
A digital watch shows the time as numbers and usually adds a stopwatch, alarm, backlight, and calendar. It is practical for training and travel.
The Casio AE-1000W models list a 41 mm plastic case and 100 meters of water resistance, which makes them good everyday sport watches. The Fossil Retro Digital models put a digital display in a square stainless steel case for a dressier look.
Which suits you
- Office and evenings: an analog watch on a metal bracelet or leather strap.
- Gym, running, and outdoor days: a digital watch with a rubber strap and a high water-resistance rating.
- One watch for everything: an analog on a steel bracelet with at least 50 m water resistance.
What water resistance means
30 m means splash resistant only, so keep it out of the shower. 50 m handles hand washing and rain. 100 m suits swimming. Only trust the rating listed for that specific model.
Common questions
Is a quartz watch accurate?
Yes. Quartz movements are battery powered and typically accurate to within seconds per month, which is more accurate than most mechanical watches.
